Goldberg was nominated alongside Annette Bening (The Grifters), Diane Ladd (Wild at Heart), Mary McDonnell (Dances With Wolves) and Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas). Goldberg, the only Black actress nominated in the category that year and the only Black actress to be an EGOT winner, took home the coveted statue.
While she doesn’t remember her post-show celebration, she did tellVarietyshe took out her fellow nominees to dinner after the show and had chocolate Oscar statuettes made for them.
“We all did really good work,” Goldberg said. “Any one of us could’ve taken it, and I don’t think anybody would’ve been mad at anybody else.”
She added, “Sometimes you look at actors and you know, ‘Oh, he’s mad,’ but with us, it was just ‘Whoever wins is paying, that’s all I know. Free food.'”

With the2021 Oscarsjust days away, Goldberg reflected on the achievement she is most proud of — and it’s not starring in a movie.
“That I’m still here,” she said. “I didn’t fade away. I didn’t disappear. I’m still here and still here doing me.”
The 93rd Academy Awards will air live on Sunday, April 25 starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.
