WhenAlyssa Diazisn’t portraying Detective Angela Lopez onThe Rookie, she’s busy building a life with fiancé Gustavo Galindo.
The actress first met the musician on a dating app, and they later got engaged during a trip to Hawaii. The couple share a son and a daughter together, in addition to Galindo’s daughter from a previous relationship.
Being a partner to Diaz and a father of three has impacted Galindo’s music career, including his 2024 albumBetween Two Worlds.
“She made me want to come back to L.A.,”Galindo told KTLAduring a July 2024 appearance, sharing that they first crossed paths in Mexico City. He explained that it was an “interesting” experience returning to the United States, where he grew up.
The Grammy-nominated artist continued, “You can’t help but be inspired again … as an artist and as a man and to want to become better in all senses.”

He met Diaz on a dating app

Though Diaz and Galindo haven’t shared when their relationship began, the actress has opened up a bit about how they first crossed paths.
“We actually met on Bumble while I was down in Mexico City filmingNarcos,” she said in a red carpet interview at the2018 Latin American Music Awards.
While Diaz was on location starring in season 1 of the Netflix show, Galindo was also recording his second album,Renacer(Reborn in English), in Mexico City. The singer ended up showing the actress around town, and his first date with Diaz was “explosive” and “beautiful.”
When asked what she liked about him, Diaz responded, “His voice, his face … and he’s just so sweet and smart and so talented.”
He’s a singer-songwriter and producer

Galindo was born in Mexico and grew up “with amazing cultural influences” between Mexico City and California, which impacted him as a musician.
“[It] felt like two worlds, one in English, the other in Spanish, one spicy, the other mild and cool,” he toldBold Journey magazinein March 2024.
Since then, Galindo has put pen to paper and written “heartfelt music that comes from my observations, thoughts and experiences.”
His debut album,Entre La Ciudad Y El Mar,was nominatedfor the Best Latin Pop, Rock, or Urban Album at the 54th Grammy Awards in 2012.
He also “[loves] helping other songwriters and artists [bring] their song to recorded life” as a producer.
He proposed to Diaz in Hawaii

Galindo got down on one knee and popped the question to Diaz while they were on a family trip in Maui, Hawaii.
The actress later revealed the “roller coaster ride" experience involving a Hawaiian priestess.
Speaking toOn The Red Carpetat the ABC Winter TCA Party in January 2020, Diaz recalled her and Galindo going through a long, intimate ceremony. While she had a feeling they could get engaged at the end of it, he kept her on her toes.
“[The Hawaiian priestess] was like, ‘Okay, now we’re going to do this ritual of letting go,’ and she gave me all these flowers and this box,” Diaz explained.
Although she predicted her ring was in the box, she was then instructed to let it float into the ocean, which she did reluctantly.
“Then when we got out [of the water], he got down, and he did it,” Diaz concluded.
He shares two children with Diaz

Diaz and Galindo share two children together, a son and a daughter. The couple have not revealed many details about their kids, including their names and birthdates.
The actress’ first pregnancy was written intoThe Rookieseason 3, creator Alexi Hawley confirmed in January 2021.
Diaz’s character Angela later welcomed a second child, a daughter, in the season 5 finale in May 2023, but it has not been confirmed if the timing of her on-screen pregnancy lined up with her real-life pregnancy again.
Galindo is also the father to a daughter from a previous relationship. He dedicated his song “Princesa” from his third albumBetween Two Worldsto her, the musiciantold Digital Journal.
“During the pandemic, when the world stopped, I was super guilt-ridden about not being able to see my daughter, who was living in Mexico City with her mom at the time. So I wrote a song about missing her, Mexico City, and my friends and family there,” he said in April 2024.
He admires Diaz as a creative person

During their joint appearance at the 2018 Latin Music Awards, Galindo took the opportunity to applaud Diaz’s work on-screen, which he noticed from the start of their romance.
“Alyssa is so professional that when she was filming [Narcos], she would say, ‘I can’t see you today because you make me too happy. I need to be in this dark space,' " he recounted.
Galindo also discussed what it was like to see her dive into acting while he worked on his music.
The following year, the two collaborated on amusic video for Galindo’s song"Como La Luna Lleva Al Mar,” in which they portrayed lovers. Afterward, the singer thanked Diaz for being part of the project.
“[Thank you] @alydiaz for your time, talent and for making me feel everything,” he wrote in Spanishon Instagram.
They share sweet moments of their relationship on social media

Despite being public figures, Diaz and Galindo have mostly kept their relationship and family private.
Galindo has only joined his fiancée for a few red carpets over the years, including theEntertainment WeeklyPre-SAG Party in 2019.
Still, he likes to give Diaz shout-outs on Instagram for special occasions, likeher birthday.
“Happy Birthday to my Virgo Queen @alydiaz ❤️ You make the world a better place,”he wrotein September 2024. “Everything you touch you make more beautiful and everyone you encounter you make more whole. You are the universe in the form of a woman🙏🏽 Love you always and forever.”
