Since at least the 1960s , Lewis Carroll ’s classicAlice in Wonderlandhas become something of an asylum within hallucinogenic drug polish . From Jefferson Airplane ’s “ White Rabbit ” waxing toThe Matrix‘s pill - propelled trips to “ Wonderland ” , the book ’s connexion with drug – no matter how loosely rooted in realness – is improbable to disappear any time soon .
With that in mind , it , of course , make sense that surrealist artist Salvador Dali , the valet who boldly hold that hewasdrugs , would have furnish his own illustrate interpreting of Alice and her trippy friends in 1969 .
This collection of gravure ( a fancy outgrowth where the artist etches bod onto a special colloidal gel - covered copper plate already debunk to take positives ) eventually became one of Dalí ’s most value suites of all time . Blending the timeless capriciousness of the children ’s narrative with the technicolor dream of the sixties , it ’s easy to see why :
