Prue Leithhas seen some fan criticism of herself — and she isn’t disagreeing with what’s been said.
In a new interview withThe Sunday Times,The Great British Baking Seriesjudge, 83, reacted to a fan of the series who said that she has a specific way of speaking. (The series is known asThe Great British Bake Offin England.)
“Oh, I hate my voice. It’s too posh,” Leith told the outlet. “When I replaced Mary Berry onBake Off,someone on Twitter said: ‘Oh no, not that posh bitch,’ and I sort of agreed with her.”
“But yes, Americans seem to like it,” the star added of her speaking voice.

Leith joinedThe Great British Baking Seriesin March 2017, replacing Berry, 88, when the television program moved to Channel 4.

At the time, Toksvig, 65, said she would be moving on from the program to focus on other work projects.

But, in an interview withRadio Timesearlier this year, Toksvig revealed that she “stopped having fun” on the show.
“To be honest, I left [the show] because I stopped having fun. I was literally standing there watching meringues dry and thinking, ‘Oh my God, my brain is atrophying,’ " she said. “So after three years, I thought, ‘That’ll do, go and do something else!’ "
“I’m in love enough with the business to think, ‘Okay, that’s a nice paycheck, but it doesn’t work for me. I’ll move on and do something else,’ " Toksvig added.

“She’s now back at university and she’ll earn no money, but she loves it because she’s so clever and loves working with young people,” she continued, referring to how Toksvig is conducting a research project at the University of Cambridge, perThe Sunday Times.
“And while she was a presenter, judges like me aren’t on screen all the time,” added Leith. “I walk on, eat cake and walk off. I can be busy writing a cookbook the rest of the time.”
