Prince WilliamandKate Middletonhit the red carpet for the third year in a row at the annual BAFTA Awards (the British equivalent of the Oscars) on Sunday.
For the event, Kate, 37, wore a white asymmetrical Alexander McQueen dress with floral embellishments on her left shoulder. She paired the elegant gown with a white clutch, a diamond bracelet and a pair of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s pearl and silver earrings. Diana wore the earrings in 1995 while accepting the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the United Celebral Palsy Foundation.
William, 36, opted for a simple black tuxedo with a white pocket square.

Kate made headlines last year for herdress choice for the annual BAFTAs. The royal, who was seven months pregnant withPrince Louisat the time, was criticized for walking the red carpet in a deep green gown with a black sash after attendees were encouraged to wear all black in support of the Time’s Up movement.
The royal family tends to stay away from anything political —they don’t even vote. Although Time’s Up fight to end the harassment, assault and mistreatment of women in the workplace is not aligned with any political party, it’s still more of a public stand than the royals typically take on hot-button issues.

Aside from Kate and William’s attendance, this year’s BAFTAs have another royal connection.The Favourite, which tells thetrue storyof two cousins vying to be the court favorite during the reign of Queen Anne in 18th century England, beat out the rest of the competition with a commanding 12 nominations.
Olivia Colman, who will star asQueen ElizabethinThe Crown‘s third and fourth seasons, picked up yet another leading actress nomination after winning the Golden Globe, while Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz were both named in the supporting actress category. The movie was also nominated in the best film, outstanding British film, director for Yorgos Lanthimos, costume design, make up & hair, cinematography, editing, original screenplay and production design.
