The chaplain sit in the Corvette ’s passenger seat as Abell let the engine idle at the only stoppage sign in Raywick when an oncoming pick-me-up did n’t stop and did n’t turn . Gone were the twenty-four hour period of Charlie Stiles , when one could go around without a firearm .
“ I got out to go see J. C. , ” Boone tell . “ And the chaplain get out and came around that fucking gondola . I had something [ a pistol ] in my hand , but he did n’t know it when he came charging around that car . Hair up like this , still had his standoff on , eyes wild . ”

Then Boone leaned down to J. C. Abell ’s window .

“ He [ Boone ] nonchalantly got into his pickup hand truck , ” Lowery said afterwards , “ and knock that Corvette all the way into about next week . I stand for , it just tear the hell out of it . The Corvette was destroy . Then he convey out and say , ‘ You need to fuck with me now ? You need some more ? ’
