Last month, the singer told PEOPLE that finally having the book out in the world felt a bit like “a pregnancy.““You’re excited, and there’s a little bit of trepidation at the same time,” she explained. “It’s like, ‘Here it comes.’ You’re powerless over the outcome, but you’ve done it.“She spent seven years writing the novel about an orphan who is sent away after her mother’s death to attend a boarding school for extraordinary teens on a mysterious island.“I would disappear for hours in my writing shed, because you have to be quite disciplined,” she said of her writing routine. “You just get lost when you’re writing.
