You ’ve belike taken some pictures of yourself at some item or another , but none of them were on Mars . Yesterday , everybody ’s favourite presently - active Mars scouter , Curiosity , send back a self - snap that is literally out of this humans .
In the picture , we finally get a not bad shot of Curiosity ’s face ( well , its mast ) including its lone eye , which is actually the rover ’s rock - bust laser . It ’s a nice snapshot , but it did n’t fall straight from Curiosity in such expectant term . Theoriginal pictureis obscured by the photographic camera ’s dust - cover , and involve from a eldritch upside - down angle .
The cleaned up image you see above is thanks to The Planetary Society ’s Emily Lakdawalla , who cleaned up the shot , and twisted it around so we could seem at Curiosity optic to eye . The Rover has a stack of other work to get to , and none of the remainder of it involve this level of vanity , but it ’s nice to see a good self - portrait of the robot that ’s out there , alone on Mars , further the cognition of all world .
