Despite what Stephen Baxter says in his new novelFlood , scientist now trust thatclimate changewon’t melt the West Antarctic Ice Sheet for at least 4,000 age .

Andrew Revkin over at the New York Times ’ Dot - Earth blogreports that the new study , published in Science , explore how much sea level would rise as the Antarctic icing sheets melt down . Though previous study had hint that sea levels could rise as much as 20 foot over the next century – a devastating amount – the newfangled study says it ’s more probable to be about 10 feet or less . Keep in mind that these numbers are only relevant to how much the Antarctic will contribute to rising sea levels , and does not answer for for what will be contributed by the speedy thaw of Greenland ’s ice sheet .
