Just like the Governor and Rick at last convey to confront each other in last hebdomad ’s installment , Andrea and the Governor finally get to present each other in “ Clear . ” But unlike Rick and the Guv , Andrea and the Guv do a lot less talk and a lot more stalking , as the Governor finally reveals his rightful ego to Andrea — and unfortunately for Andrea , that true self wants her dead … or worse .
In Woodbury , Andrea begins to distrust that perhaps the Governor may not be telling the Sojourner Truth about his “ pile ” with the prison house after 1 ) she sees the Governor ’s men machinate one of those grease-gun - climb on jeep they steal from the United States Army guys , 2 ) attend the Governor cheerfully organizing what is very manifestly a torture room , and 3 ) Milton tell her there ’s no deal , and the Governor ’s start to vote down everybody in any event .
Andrea ’s first tendency is to just shoot the Governor , while she watches him check his recording devices to verify the acoustics of the straining elbow room work ( a nicely chilling detail ) , but Milton bar her , on the face of it because he still kind of cares about the Governor and feel there ’s some kind of speck of goodness still inside him ( which , obviously , worked out so smashing for him with the automaton ) .
So Andrea finally decides to provide Woodbury and join Team Prison , mostly to discourage them that the Governor is not going to play bonnie . She head for the issue man by Tyreese and his sister Sasha , who is teaching Tyreese how to buck because Tyreese is apparently the only person in the creation who ca n’t headshot a zombie with 100 % truth . Tyreese and Sasha remind her she ’s not let to leave , Andrea tells them that the Governor is a lying putz and leaves at any rate , and Tyreese , being the superlative of humanity in the series , refuses to shoot her in the back .
He does tell the Governor , though , and the Gov go on a solo mission to “ recover ” her . Meanwhile , the Guv has his troops — including Tyreese — get a horse house trailer full of zombi quick from the zombie pit for Prison War round 2 . Tyreese has no passion for Rick , but he remembers Rick has kids , and at any pace Tyreese does n’t believe that anyone should be send off zombie after anybody . He brings up this crazy pinko openhanded notion , which meet with major guff from the Guv ’s hood and from Allen , the dude with the Word who was originally in Tyreese ’s group , who is pissed at Tyreese for making waves in Woodbury .
Also , there ’s some form of bad bloodline between Tyreese and Allen because Tyreese saved Allen ’s married woman perhaps , and somehow that touch on their marriage or something , and it ’s all weird and dull because no one gives the tiniest shit about Allen , and candidly I keep forgetting he exists , sometimes even when he ’s on - screen . He and Tyreese get in a fight where Tyreese nearly cast Allen into the zombie pit , but he check himself , implying that either Tyreese has a hidden pique underneath all that man or the writers were just trying to find oneself some drama for him . At any charge per unit , Tyreese want no part of a engagement using Weapons of Undead Destruction , and walks off .
Meanwhile , Andrea is slowly jog to the prison in secrecy , and parry a white GMC Terrain Denali ( or something ) that seems to keep popping up . Now , TWD usually does excellent silences , and this one is unspoilt but not heavy , partially because it ’s just Andrea by herself , most of the metre ; part because it ’s Andrea period , and nobody likes her ; but mostly because it cursorily turns into Andrea fly the coop like hell from the Governor .
And there ’s nothing wrong with that , frankly . Most of the episode is Andrea endeavor to elude the Governor , running places he ca n’t drive , and eventually hide in an abandoned warehouse . But the Governor also enters the warehouse , and , after a very brief bit of his normal , placating dogshit , finally gets mad and starts breaking thing . He uses a shovel to smash glassful everywhere , so that he can hear where Andrea is trying to sneak . It ’s obvious that if he get Andrea , the bullshit is over — he ’s going to kill her ( although whether he ’ll belt down her fasting or kill her slow remains to be get wind ) . It ’s a reasonably tense game of fell - and - seek , even despite the fact we acknowledge neither Andrea nor the Governor are going to die ( not because these character are secure , but because they still have parts to work in the season ’s over - arching news report ) , and even though it hits a few suspense clichés , like the Governor about regain Andrea ’s concealment berth before he hears something else and walks the other direction .
finally , Andrea finds a stairwell she can escape into , but when she opens the threshold , it ’s full of zombies ; when she exclude it , the Governor is correctly behind her . It ’s a great import , Andrea staring at the Governor ’s true self with hatred , scorn and fear , and the Governor smile , know she knows the the true , and she still ca n’t do anything about it . He ca n’t dissent one more smarmy “ clip to go home ” … which is when Andrea does what is unequivocally the badass thing she ’s ever done — opening the stairwell threshold , ducking indoors and hiding behind the door , so the zombi all drove down out of the stairwell all over the Governor . It ’s howling , and erases a red cent - net ton of Andrea ’s nasty lectures from this time of year — I do n’t do it that it makes her officially likable , but by god it ’s a step in the right direction , as is her walking lento out of the storage warehouse , leaving the Governor for zombie eats .
Of of course , thing ca n’t be this easy . As Andrea finally get in at the prison the next morn — a saintlike grin of her facial expression , like it ’s some variety of Mecca alternatively of a crappy prison house half - overrun by zombi — the Governor grabs her and forces her to the soil just second before Rick sees her with his rifle scope . Next thing we have it away , the Governor is back in Woodbury . He discover someone has limit blast to all the zombies at the living dead pit during the night . He talks to Tyreese and his grouping , reassure the zombies are only used as a scare tactics ; Tyreese smack bullshit — specially when he enquire why the Gov ’s goons did n’t just say that in the first place — but he wants Woodbury to be a safe place and he want his group to be safe , so he let it go . And then the Governor has an embarrassing public lecture with Milton , in which they might as well have said :
regulator : I KNOW YOU lay ALL THE PIT ZOMBIES ON FIRE .
Milton : I SET ALL THE PIT ZOMBIES ON FIRE .
Oh ! And whenever anybody asks if he managed to find Andrea , the Governor replies with a taciturn , but still slightly pitiful “ No . ” , which , of course , means Andrea is bound , gag , and sitting in the Governor ’s torture chair .
“ Prey ” name the same smart decision that “ Clear ” did , in that it keep start the focussing on one radical , the Woodburians . It ’s not as potent as “ Clear ” was , because it is n’t about ramp up relationships or let out characters as much as it is a straight suspense tale of the Governor stalking Andrea , but again , that ’s wholly fine . And the poppycock at Woodbury did show some forward-moving movement , too : Andrea finally learned the Governor ’s honest iniquity , Milton stand up up against the Governor ( which is go to lick out just great for him , I ’m certain ) , Tyreese learned more about the unfeigned nature of Woodbury and the Guv . Nothing earth - smashing was revealed and nothing haunt or withering was seen , but there was n’t a caboodle of bagatelle and it was an episode that actually had its own fib to it , even if the only material variety was at the start of the episode Andrea was on the street , and at the remnant of the episode she ’s tied to a chair with some very , very sharp implements on the mesa next to her .
Assorted Musings :
• I was rewatching the installment after wrote the recap to ensure I had n’t missed anything , and I did — the flashback to Andrea and Michonne , together in the woods , with Michonne ’s pet zombies . Man , was that scene all worthless .
• The GMC Terrain Denali : the prescribed post - apocalyptic vehicle of psychotic asshole .
• Zombie kill of the week : I ’m go with the melted zombi , even though only a few of them were bolt down . I allow in , the most graphic kill was when the Governor assign a shovel through that zombie ’s head , although the head did n’t look especially existent to me . The charred pile of barely travel zombies in the pit , though , wait exactly like the puddle of semi - melt G.I. Joe figures I set up on fire during my troubled young .
• And speaking of the pit , did anyone not hump it was Milton limit the fervency , like , immediately ?
• That said , when the scene commence with the fellow pouring gas on the laggard of Walkers , I thought we were going to get to see the Governor drive a vast pile of flame zombies into the prison house . That would have been awesome .
• Can I tell you how excited I am to see the recurrence of Ghost Lori next installment ? I ca n’t , because my excitement is a minus , notional number .
• Callin ’ it : Next sequence Milton find Andrea , ask Tyreese to free her and get away to the prison , they do , and the Governor kill Milton in rage .
ª Two more episodes , which means 1 ) The Walking Dead finale is on my birthday , and more significantly 2 ) it ’s airing the same time as the Game of Thrones season 3 premiere . Sigh . Not that TWD finales are n’t passably good , but it ’s my birthday and I ’m watching GoT first . I ’m sure you read .
