I ’ve seen lots of photos of airborne fueling , but always from the side of the bunce operator . I ’ve never seen the fuel nozzlelike this . It looks so weird and coolheaded ! I wish how the nozzle comes out of the pilot boom , like the mini - oral cavity follow out of the unknown ’s mouth .
This is how it work :
The fly boom is attach to the rear of the tanker aircraft . The bond is gimballed , allowing the boom to move with the receiver aircraft . The boom contains a rigid tube to transfer fuel . The fuel pipe end in a nozzle with a flexible ball joint . The nozzle mates to the “ receptacle ” in the receiver aircraft during fuel transfer . A poppet valve valve in the oddment of the hooter prevents fuel from exiting the tube until the nozzle properly mates with the recipient ’s refueling receptacle . Once properly mate , on/off switch in the receptacle engage the hooter , holding it locked during fuel transport .

The “ fly ” bonanza is so named because flight control surface , small movable control surface , are used to move the boom by create aerodynamic violence . They are actuated hydraulicly and controlled by the organisation wheeler dealer using a control joint . The manipulator also telescopes the roar to make the connexion with the receiving system ’s receptacle .
