Wood Nebula
Besides shooting landscape and the occasional portrait and wildlife , I also like to frivol away abstract , or what I lovingly refer to as bill poster art . Although I did n’t on this shot , many of my photographs are individual photograph HDR , using first Photoshop , then Photomatix . The topic of this shot was some old growth Fir I had been planing on my Roubo workbench . There are also some shavings from 3/4 inch plywood in the center of the mix .
Generally when I ’m shooting abstract , I pluck a subject area and just fritter away . Tight , focussed , blurred , etc . When I was processing this Seth of stroke , I straight off saw this one as a Nebula , and so chose it for submission . Nikon D5100 , Nikkor 18 - 55 mm DX lens , 1/8 2nd shutter fastness , F/9 , ISO 100 , colour was tweak a mo using GIMP to make up for the blue tone 5000 K make . Burnt Hair
While searching for something to pullulate for this challenge , I pulled out a piece of firewood from a pocket-size pile in my backyard . Funny thing is , my house does n’t have a flak place , nor do I have a flame perdition or anything like that . Being that I hold out in Florida , a fervour billet or Hell , while enjoyable , would n’t get that much use . This pile of oak was there when we moved in two days ago , and was already dried up and rot at that degree . The bottom of this particular log was split and splintered , produce dozens of texture and depth in a very little infinite . The element had discolor some parts , but left others areas almost untouched . I take a fistful of shots from a few angles using various mount . This one was my favorite of the lot . I ran the image through Photoshop to adjust the exposure and contrast a little , but nothing major . Shot with my Nikon D3100 with a 18 - 55 mm lens of the eye set up at 55 mm , f/13 , 1/100 shutter swiftness , ISO 100 .

Bonsai Dream
I just come into possession of this dream lens and was nervous to try it out . The flange focal aloofness of the 5d2 limits the use of this genus Lens for macro shots . A bonsai exhibit was showing at the Chicago Botanic Garden this weekend and I took the opportunity to examine this lens on some perfectly sized subjects . DOF on this genus Lens widely open is razor fragile and only comes into focus at about 6 inch . The only agency to focalise with this lens / camera combination is to move ahead and back . A routine hard to do taking this shot handheld and crouching scummy for the perspective . Although this shot is perhaps not the best in term of artistry , it does highlight the dreaminess that this lens is known for . Canon 5d mk II , Canon 50 millimetre f/0.95 TV Lens w/ bayonet - to - EF mountain transcriber , Manual mood , f/0.95 , 1/250 sec , ISO 100
